The Government of Brunei Darussalam

Ministry of Home Affairs

Its role is a multi-faceted that covers SIX main areas :-

  1. District.
  2. Municipal.
  3. Immigration and National Registration.
  4. Labour.
  5. Prisons.
  6. Fire Services

Such a portfolio impinges on the everyday life of citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam.

The aim of the Ministry is difficult to be quantified because it covers variety of aspects and is engaged in wide-ranging tasks, but generally it can be said the Ministry was set up with the following objectives:

    • To maintain peace and security of the country
    • To enhance the standard and quality of life so as to ensure continuous prosperity and well-being of the people
    • To ensure balanced development in all the districts

Two themes run through the functions of the Ministry. The first one is regulatory, such as controlling and regulating the entry and stay of foreign workers under the Immigration Act and Regulations. Labour matters, detention aspects and fire prevention measures also fall within the ministerial's purview. So, the Ministry and its Departments are responsible for carrying out duties and functions as laid down in accordance to the laws.

The second theme is its involvement in Brunei's local authority. All the Districts Offices and Municipal Boards are placed within the Ministry because of the need for the administration to be close to the people.
