Immigration & National Registration

  • Entry of foreigners and the duration of their stay is regulated by the Department. Control is exercised through visas and various passes in accordance to specific purposes. The employment of foreign workers to meet the shortage of manpower is permitted provided local job opportunities are not jeopardised.

  • The Department issues travel documents to citizens and permanent residents.

  • It is also responsible for the registration of nationals, births and deaths, adoption as well as issuing of identity cards, birth, death and adoption certificates.


Fire Services

  • Equipped with some of the most modern equipments available, Brunei Fire Services operates on both land and water to provide emergency services, namely fire-fighting and rescue.

  • In addition, the Department builds up and maintains its operational capability and readiness, strives to increase public awareness and promotes public safety.

Prisons

  • There is only one central prison in Brunei, the Jerudong Prison. It accommodates all categories of prisoners ranging from those on remand and sentenced to one day's jail to criminal serving life imprisonment and death sentences. A new prison is under constructed in Maraburung and will be completed in September this year.

  • The Department also runs the Al-Islah Drug Rehabilitation Centre and Al-Islah Intoxicating Substances Rehabilitation Centre.

  • It has a review system which emphasises on humane treatment and rehabilitation or prisoners by assisting them for their return to society as useful and law abiding citizens. Aside from attending vocational courses, they also undergo social and religious counselling.

Labour

  • Brunei Darussalam's small population cannot provide all the manpower needed to implement all its development projects. As such, Labour Department continues to allow skilled as well as unskilled foreign workers to work in Brunei, notably in the construction and service-related sector.

  • As most of the citizens are employed in the public sector, it continues to promote and ensure more local employments in the private sector.

District Office

  • The fostering of closer links and more effective communication between the Government and the people is one of the key roles of the District Offices. This is done through the medium of the Penghulu and the Ketua Kampung, thus District Offices play traditional function of providing a channel of communication between the Government and the.

Municipal Board

  • The board is responsible for the improvement in the living standards of the town-dewllers by providing adequate facilities as well as enforcing rules and regulations to ensure proper development is taking place.

  • It is also responsible for creating a conducive environment for business, commercial and economic activities.
